Yes, the DA Shows superior coverage of all things football has earned us plenty of respect over the last four years. The concept of a Caller Hall of Fame made us one of the pioneering sportstalk shows in America. The combination of sports, entertainment and humor has branded the show like none other in the market.
Of course, at the end of the day the DA Shows most popular, most anticipated, and highest-rated segment each year is the Hometown Hottie Hall of Fame. We know our role.
Like the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue thawing sports fans out of their winter freeze, each February we hand over Valentines to the hottest of the Kansas City television personalities, as determined by our listeners. Each hottie has made her way to the DA Show studios to join us on-air, when we bestow upon them their Valentines Day gifts to make sure they feel loved (and stalked).
The first two classes are stacked, literally and figuratively. The inaugural 2005 class reads like the original set of members inducted into Cooperstown: Merideth Hoenes, perky morning host of KC-Live. The gorgeous Shelly Slater of Fox-4 (who quickly left us in the dust and was promoted to Dallas). The well-respected and down-to-Earth Lara Moritz, night time anchor at KMBC-9, who donned a sweatshirt and ball cap in studio and still looked incredible. The adorable Cynee Simpson of KCTV-5 took her act to Hot-lanta, but not before receiving induction to the DA Shows hallowed halls. The warmest of warm-fronts came our way courtesy of KMBC-9 weather kitten Erin Little.
The original class will always hold a special place in our hearts, however, the second group was just as talented. The Valedictorian is the inimitable Donna Pitman at KMBC-9. After her induction into the Hall, she was quickly promoted to morning anchor. The decision-makers clearly saw what the city wanted. The grisly crew at the DA Show stares in wanderlust daily at Ms. Donna, wondering how she looks so good at the same time we look so bad. Sure, we are dressed in jeans and sweatshirts with dark circles under our eyes. But hey, it is 5:00a in the morning. Ms. Donna looking that perfect that early is truly the work of higher powers.
The class of 2006 also includes the fun-loving Loren Halifax of Fox-4, who was actually alerted of her induction by her news director (apparently, we are very big amongst management. Other management). Intrepid reporter Carrie Coogin, also of Fox-4, earned a spot in every DA Show listeners hearts, tabbing me for a special edition of Try It Before You Buy It. It was a hot dog maker, one of the most romantic moments in TV history. The class also included sports hottie Michelle Loibner of Action News, who invited me on 38 The Sports Spot. What followed was sports commentary with some real chemistry. Of course, she left to follow her fiancee to Ft. Launderdale. We seem to have a way of pushing our hotties away.
Now, meet the 2007 class: KCTV-5s Sophia Wharton, Jennifer Kolbusz of Action News and Metro Sports cutie Erin Bajackson. So many hotties, so little time. But trying to overcome frigid Midwestern temperatures, icy delays on I-35 and the post-football depression, we must trudge on. The DA Show is there to warm up the winter with hometown hotties. We know our role.
